The Super Bowl is the NFL's championship game and features the best teams competing for the league's title, but millions of young adults tune in to the big game each year mainly for the halftime show, making this event one of the most watched in the world.
The Gen Z audience engages with the Super Bowl halftime show more than the actual game to experience a cultural moment. This year, they tuned in to watch Bad Bunny's performance that featured good vibes and well-known artists such as Cardi B and Lady Gaga.
The Super Bowl halftime also show gives students a way to take a break from daily responsibilities and connect with friends and family members to enjoy an event that millions of people get to watch around the world at the same time, something that is increasingly uncommon.
Raquel Burke, a student from the communications program at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, said the Super Bowl halftime show is so much fun to watch with friends and gives us a way to relax and have fun at the same time.
“The Super Bowl halftime show is a good way to have fun with friends and sharing opinions with on who’s going to win the game,” Burke said.
Kimberly Lewis, a second-year student in Humber's creative advertising program, says the halftime show gives her the chance to interact with her community.
“When it comes to the Super Bowl, it’s not just a football game that I look forward to it’s the performances and knowing the whole world is watching and having the chance to share the experience her community,” Lewis said.
