Ontario Public Service Employees Union President JP Hornick discussed the issues with Humber Et Cetera on the first day of the full-time support staff strike. Humber Polytechnic is in Ontario Premier Doug Ford's riding of Etobicoke North.
Hornick said the union's concerns go beyond the talking points at the bargaining table as Ontario's colleges face underfunding by the province. She said the union is open to resuming bargaining whenever the College Employer Council is ready to do so.
They said the union also stands by international students and their rights. Hornick said they think it is absolutely preposterous that governments justify their wrongful actions by blaming international students who bring $10 billion into the economy to solve a housing crisis that is not their creation.
Hornick believes post-secondary education should be free for all students since that is a necessity to get a job in today's world.
