Humber Polytechnic students took time out of their day-to-day life to participate in a walk and run in the Arboretum that promoted fitness - and a good cause.

This event, hosted by students in the fitness and health promotion program, took place right beside Parking Lot 4, which helped make the event inclusive for students of every fitness level.

This year's event, which had a time travel theme that symbolized the past, included loud tropical music and free pizza and boba tea for anyone who took part in the run

The creative concept for the activity helped draw student's attention to the event, but the main idea behind the run was to support mental health.

Funds from the registrations go straight to Stella’s Place, which provides fee mental health services to young adults through Toronto. Student participants who are involved in the run paid $10 while non-students paid $15.

The event's host said that this event is also meant to help teach young people about ways to cope with mental health in a positive way while also promoting physical activity

“I believe fitness goes with mental health and fitness has saved my life,” Carmen Puyo, a fitness and wellness advocate at Humber, said.

Despite being held on a rainy afternoon, the race had a lively vibe for Humber students and others who still wanted to participate in the race that featured over a hundred people participating in a welcoming environment.

Jayde Delisle was one former student from the fitness program who participated in the 5K.

“Getting everybody involved and running for a good cause is why we have events like this at Humber Polytechnic.” he said.
