Byelection

Forty-six candidates from Terrebonne, Que., will be competing for a spot in Parliament. During the last general election, this riding was tightly contested, lifting the Liberals above the Bloc Québécois by a single vote.

The Liberals in the University-Rosedale riding are projected to win in a strong majority with 64 per cent of the vote. The riding's previous Liberal representative was Cabinet Minister Chrystia Freeland, since the riding's inception in 2015.

The Liberals are expected to win a majority government with the three byelections taking place today.  

With the clock ticking, tensions inside parliament have been brewing since the beginning of the year.

Three byelections, two of them in Toronto, are being held on April 13. University-Rosedale and Scarborough Southwest are expected to remain Liberal, while Terrebonne in Quebec is once again showing it could be a tight race.

Federal byelection candidates in Scarborough Southwest faced off on April 2 over issues including affordability, housing and food insecurity.
